Barbara Raymond

“WE WANT REAL JOBS FOR REAL PEOPLE, NOT ROBOTS!” says Barbara Raymond, candidate for New Cross ward. “As if getting jobs wasn’t hard enough, B&Q on the Old Kent Road has got rid of its cashiers and introduced machines to scan your shopping and take your cash, and Tesco is also beginning to do this.

Machines mean fewer jobs and fewer wages to pay, and so more profit for them. Many cashier jobs are held by women who are often the family’s sole bread winner. They have to  work part-time and flexible hours to be able to look after their family. Jobs like this for ordinary people have never been as threatened as they are now. BT has moved much of its operations to the Philippines where labour is cheap. What is going on in this country?

Kraft, the huge American company, bought Cadbury’s with money they borrowed from the Royal Bank of Scotland, a bank which we bailed out and  own. They now intend to close the factories in this country and move them to Eastern Europe.

It is unbelievable that a Labour government would use tax payers’ money, your money, to enable a foreign company to buy a great British business and sack British workers. We should all be furious! I hope you will support my campaign supporting real jobs and opposing the cuts that Labour Lewisham is planning for after the elections in May.”

Susanna Farley

“WE NEED A NEW PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL NOW!” says Susanna Farley, Lewisham People Before Profit candidate for New Cross ward.

“A new council report says we will need another 500 primary school places this September, but hundreds of local children already have to leave the borough due to the criminal shortage in school places this council has created. Labour Lewisham could build a new award winning school on land it owns, that is, WE own, but guess what?

Labour would rather make a quick buck selling off our land to developers rather than do its job and provide the much needed primary and secondary school places. Our children have been abandoned by New Labour.

We need councillors who will fight for new schools, fight for jobs, and fight for more council homes. Lewisham People Before Profit candidates are all local residents and community activists, not dodgy career politicians. We will put YOUR interests first, but you need to vote Labour out on May 6 to bring about the change we all desperately need.”

Raymond Woolford

Ray Woolford“THE PATHETIC 25P A WEEK RISE IN PENSIONS IS MORE EVIDENCE THAT LABOUR NO LONGER CARES ABOUT THE POOR,” says Ray Woolford, Lewisham People Before Profit candidate for New Cross ward.

“The 25p rise is not even enough to cover the cost of a second class stamp to write to our Labour MP to complain. But all our Labour, Tory and Lib Dem councillors and MPs are seeing an increase in pay, no cuts, and free holidays in the sun. And then we have to endure the obscenity of seeing Labour politicians taking bribes and fiddling their expenses on an epic scale!

If we did this, we would be sacked and have a criminal record. But New Labour is the most corrupt government in living memory and, as we have seen on Page 1 of this newsletter, our local Labour councillors are no different! I am sick of them expecting us to go on voting for them so they can carry on picking our pockets while pensioners and low-income families in this Labour area have to choose between keeping warm and eating.

We must give them the sack on May 6 by voting for Lewisham People Before Profit candidates.
