Helen Mercer

Our candidate in Ladywell is Helen Mercer.

Helen Mercer has lived in South East London for over 30 years and in Ladywell for 19 years. She is a lecturer who works locally.

Helen was a governor at Lewisham Bridge Primary School from 1999-2005 and has been an active advocate of saving the school and the historic building. She is an active member of Hillyfields Park Users’ Group and is currently the Secretary.

Finally, Helen has been an active member of a series of groups set up to oppose the so-called ‘regeneration’ schemes for Lewisham Gateway, Loampit Vale and Thurston Road. These schemes have meant that good lats, shops, pubs and other small businesses have been reduced to rubble and the land flogged off to private developers. The needs of current residents are placed behind the urge for ‘healthy’ profit margins.
