Alexia Wdowski

Our candidate in Evelyn is Alexia Alexia WdowskiWdowski.

At just 26 and a Goldsmiths graduate, Alexia is only too aware how tough it is to find a good job at the moment.

She is also wondering why there are so many empty shops and houses when people need jobs and homes.

She has lived in the area for 8 years now and counting.

She is angry and disappointed at the lack of opportunity for both graduates and young people in general, and wants to draw on all the talent, excitement and variety of life in Deptford and translate it into real opportunities for local people.

She understands the apathy that makes people feel left out of politics.

She is shocked by the way career politicians have got away with abusing their power and wasting our money.

She is an activist in Lewisham People Before Profit and has been involved in letting local people know how cuts in services and massive development schemes in Deptford will affect them.

She has been busy challenging the council on planning issues, demanding that they do their job and put local people before the interests of developers and their profits.

She also believes in creating innovative ways to meet environmental concerns.

She thinks the council have the power to make Deptford a better place for everyone if they only had the courage to stand up to the developers.

She wants more secondary and primary school places for local kids so they don't have to travel huge distances to find school places.

She also supports visionary new ideas such as a floating school in the borough and the opening up of Deptford Creek.

“Labour live on another planet,” says Alexia. “We need real change, and the main political parties with their squabbles and identkit policies will never provide it."

"I really hope you will vote for me and elect a councillor who will fight your corner, every day of the week, every week of the year, and not just put in a brief appearance at election time.”
